Geo and Gourmet Trail - From Beer to Bratwurst

Höhe und Position

Qualitätsweg Wanderbares Deutschland

Quality-tested

This Thuringian hiking trail is quality-tested!

Brewing beer and grilling bratwurst have a more than 600-year old tradition in Arnstadt, the gateway to the Thuringian Forest. It was here that the first wheat beer outside of Bavaria was brewed in 1617 and the oldest recorded mention of grilled bratwurt in 1404 also refers to Arnstadt. So come and enjoy beer and bratwurst made to secret recipes handed down over the generations in Thuringia's oldest town!

The 16-kilometre circular hiking trail links Arnstadt with Holzhausen and runs through the Inselsberg-Drei Gleichen National Geopark. Large sculptures by an Arnstadt artist adorn the trail and illustrate the region's culinary specialities. At seven locations, there are info boards on the history and fertility of local soils, which was the basic requirement for the region's culinary development.

On the circular hiking trail are the 1st German Bratwurst Museum in Holzhausen and the Hotel Park Town Brewery Arnstadt, where the historic art of brewing beer is presented by the "beer caller" and his serving girls. And, of course, all the culinary delicacies can also be tasted!
