"Discovery, amazement and participation" is the motto with which the Grottoneum Adventure Museum welcomes young and old. At many different stopping points, visitors can listen, read, touch, smell and taste and can investigate lots of fascinating issues themselves. In this way, they can learn with playful ease all about the origins of the former mine, the laborious work of the miners of the time and the world of minerals and stalactites. Using the bellows, visitors can, for example, try to supply the mine with fresh air.

Numerous other hands-on points in the mine area demonstrate what it was like underground. In the stalactite area, the focus is on the growth of these unique formations underground and at the "Dance of the Molecules", you can grow your own stalactite. During a journey back to the prehistoric past 440 million years ago in the Grotto cinema, visitors will experience the birth of the Fairy Grottoes first-hand and even meet a giant scorpion from the Silurian Sea. The world of minerals can be explored with the "Mineral Zoom" and at the molecule table, the development of the minerals can be actively traced. A model of the Fairy Grottoes provides an unparalleled bird's-eye view of the system of galleries and caves.

As an out-of-school learning centre, the Grottoneum offers numerous different ways of addressing lots of topics playfully and with multimedia support. Fascinating questions about stalactites, minerals and mining can be answered at 23 hands-on knowledge points. On the Grottoneum Rally, children can solve assignments at the various stations. Further information and materials are available directly at the Grottoneum website.
