A virtual visit to the Castle of Heaven
The lost castle chapel in Weimar is a place that many fans of Bach would love to visit. Known as the Himmelsburg, the ‘Castle of Heaven’, it had an unusual architecture that provided exceptional acoustics. Johann Sebastian Bach wrote his Weimar cantatas specifically for this venue.
Now, the Castle of Heaven is no longer the stuff of dreams. It has become a virtual experience thanks to a collaborative project involving experts from a variety of fields. The chapel can be explored at a number of festival locations, accompanied by Bach’s music.
