Arnstadt Town Hall
The Town Hall (1583-1585) was built in Renaissance style after the great town fire of 1581. With its numerous decorative elements, it dominates the facade of the north side of the marketplace. The main front features two elaborate gables. On the east gable, perceptive visitors will discover a clock with the phases of the moon and will delight in the statues dating from the 14th to 16th century.
On the eastern side of the marketplace is a gallery with 18 sandstone columns that was used as a clothmakers' workshop. Elaborate restoration work was completed in 2009 and the Town Hall is now resplendent in its new glory.
