The Restaurant Landgrafen is located high up on a mountain and is one of the top addresses for fine treats for the taste buds in Jena, the city by the river Saale. The restaurant’s manager, Daniel Reichel, is passionate about creating freshly prepared meals from mostly regional products.
When creating his dishes, Daniel Reichel takes his enthusiasm and curiosity and transforms them into his own new creations time and time again. His favourite combinations feature local products harmoniously merged with Mediterranean components, to create meals such as orecchiette with wild boar salsiccia and Parmesan crumbs or haunch of lamb served with sautéed artichokes and rosemary potatoes. The restaurant’s game delicacies are sourced from hunters from the local region. Its fresh or smoked fish is obtained from the Forellenhof trout farm in the town of Mellingen and its lamb comes from the farmers' cooperative Agrargenossenschaft Bucha. The restaurant cooperates with a farm to create its very own ice cream specialities, taking milk directly from the producer and quinces from the trees on the Landgraf mountain to produce an exquisite quince sorbet served with crème brûlée.
