Visitors looking for a rural retreat, enjoyment and relaxation at the heart of the Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal Nature Park are sure to love the Hof Sickenberg! Gently winding paths lead up to this listed group of half-timbered buildings surrounded by old walnut trees, a berry plantation, a sheep pasture and a cottage garden in a truly picturesque setting.
When you arrive at the café, the first thing you’ll notice is the wonderful silence. This peace and quiet is only interrupted by the sound of the birds twittering away and the gentle rustling of the ancient walnut trees. A narrow path leads past the large half-timbered building, taking you past colourful flower beds and borders full of shrubs and allowing you to watch the sheep as they lie in the grass and enjoy a well-earned nap. On top of all this, the cottage and vegetable garden is also a real treat for the eyes!
The "Hofcafé", which is run by Kristina Bauer, has now been open to guests for 10 years and has gained many admirers over this period. The café is particularly proud of the fact that all of its meals and drinks are completely sourced from the local region. It serves its meals on earthenware plates that have been handmade by a local potter. Alongside its own freshly baked bread, the café’s hand-written menu is full of delicacies like tasty soups made with home-grown vegetables and wholesome ploughman's lunches featuring bread with tasty toppings such as cheese from the Eichsfeld region or spreadable “Mettwurst” sausage. Guests can also enjoy coffee served with a slice of raspberry cream cake, gooseberry cake or other sweet treats featuring the delicious ingredients available in the garden at the time.
