Mühlhausen is one of the few towns in Germany which today still have an encircling medieval town wall which is almost complete. Despite some losses - all the town gates except the inner and outer "Frauentor" Gate were demolished in the 19th century - the town wall today still gives an imposing impression of the fortification and significance of the Former Free Imperial Town. From the town side of the inner Frauentor, visitors can view the defences, which are now in a museum-type form, over a length of 330 metres. In addition, the viewing platform of the Rabenturm Tower offers a magnificent panoramic view of Mühlhausen and the surrounding area.
