One of the most famous battles of the Napoleonic Wars was fought in the surrounding fields. The Palace of Auerstedt was used as the headquarters for the Prussian-Saxon army in 1806. The nearby "Auerworld Palace", a unique "living" construction made of willow rods, has been open to visitors since Easter 1998. The use of the Auerworld Palace for regular full-moon festivals is a true enrichment to the cultural programme of our region.
